As phishing improves emails look more and more legitimate and many of you often wonder if an attachment is safe to open or not.

9.5 times our of 10 the answer is ‘No don’t open that one’!

If you want to check yourself though I recommend saving the file (don’t double click to open it, instead right click to save it) to a special directory called Malware and then running an online checker.

WARNING: As is always the case in security this is not a 100% guarantee. A brand new vulnerability (called a zero-day) may not be recognizable by any AV/Malware detection software. So use common sense as well.

Please feel free to share this with Customers/Friends/Family. Unfortunately we humans are the weakest link in the security chain!

Here is the output for a recent file FAX-646043.zip. This website ran the file against 48 AV/Malware detectors and 5 of them found something.
